CS2 Update: The Real MVP, Community Maps, Video Settings and More
A couple of days after celebrating the 25th anniversary of Counter-Strike, the game developers released a highly anticipated CS2 update. On the one hand, the patch from 6/25/2024 doesn’t respond to the community’s high expectations—people wanted more for such a date. On the other hand, this update is still pretty exciting. It adds five community maps to CS2, giving easier access to every player.
Let’s highlight these maps and the CS2 modes they are playable in. Also, this post on DMarket Blog has info on other changes in the CS2 Release Notes 6/25/2024, including adjustments to the main maps.
Two New Maps for Primary Matchmaking
It is a pretty big deal to see Valve adding new community maps to the primary matchmaking group in CS2. Now we have two extra maps to play competitive and casual Counter-Strike on. These maps are also available for the Deathmatch mode.
- Thera—it’s based on Santorini, a Greek island also known as Thera.
- Mills—a pretty village in the Netherlands.
Two Maps for Wingman
These maps are smaller, and they are better suited for playing the CS2 Wingman mode.
- Memento—the action happens during an Italian wedding.
- Assembly—it’s the internal space of an aircraft assembly line.
One Map for Arms Race Matches
One more community map in CS2 has been added specifically for the Arms Race mode.
- Pool Day—some people visit pools to swim and enjoy the water; Counter-Strike 2 players use this opportunity to practice their skills with various weapons.
Other Changes
The new community maps are the biggest thing in the CS2 update from 6/25/2024. Still, some other changes are worth nothing.
Three maps got fixes for the bomb stuck spots: Nuke, Ancient, and Vertigo. There are fixes for grenade collision and clipping on Anubis. World holes and non-solid objects have been fixed on Ancient.
The Counter-Strike 2 user interface (UI) has been improved, in aspects related to MVP. Skill Groups for a map are revealed in competitive matchmaking after two wins. The list of changes in Video Settings is pretty big, but it doesn’t affect the actual gameplay too much. We recommend checking it out in the official CS2 6/25/2024 release notes.
