Everything about CS2 Fade Patterns: Rare Knife Variations and More
If you plan to add a CS2 Fade knife to your collection, you absolutely need to know some important nuances about this type of skin. One Fade knife may be super expensive, even in terms of Counter-Strike 2 knives. Yet another, very similar item may be substantially cheaper. What’s the difference? How can you avoid making a mistake during an exchange or trade?
Everything you need to know about rare and valuable variations of CS2 Fade knives and other weapons is here, on DMarket Blog.
What is the Fade Percentage in CS2 Skins?
Any Fade skin in Counter-Strike 2 is based on the Fade texture pattern. It’s a gradient with three colors: yellow, red, and blue (purple).
The texture pattern for this type of CS2 skin looks like a pretty big square image. No weapon is big enough to have it all on its surface. Therefore all Fade skins are different—depending on where the weapon shape lies on the texture pattern image.
The yellow/red/blue gradient can cover the whole blade of a Fade CS2 knife. This is generally referred to as a 100% Fade or Full Fade. If not, some parts of the knife’s blade or the weapon’s body will remain gray, without any Fade on that part. The smaller the percentage, the cheaper the skin.
Sure, the Fade percentage does not affect the gameplay or your successes in the game. But it’s a feature to highlight your style, and probably your status, in the community. If you want to play better, practice a lot—for example, learn one of the best CS2 maps thoroughly to be an effective team player.
What are CS2 Fade Knives Pattern Indexes? Rare Variations
The Fade percentage is based on placing a knife or any other CS2 weapon over the Fade pattern image. The other thing to note with this type of Counter-Strike skin is how the blue, red, and yellow areas are reflected on the blade.
You may get a Fade knife that is almost fully yellow, with only a small part of red and no blue at all. This may happen with smaller knives, like Butterfly or Stiletto. Such variations are not considered especially valuable.
Or you may get a CS2 Fade knife with a lot of blue on its blade. Some people prefer this type of skin, as they are rarer to find.
Pattern indexes of CS2 Fade knives are a numeric reflection of how the pattern image has been placed on a specific weapon. The possible variations are from 1 to 1,000.
Understanding what every number means for all the Fade skins is a pretty complicated science. It is much more efficient to check out the visual representation of the color gradient on the skins. As for the Fade percentages, you should know how to check this parameter.

How to Check the Fade Percentage and Pattern Index
There are two possible scenarios when you may want to check the Fade percentage or how a specific pattern index looks on a weapon.
- When you have abstract ideas in your mind and want to be prepared for future purchases.
- When you have a real skin in front of you, and you are considering buying it.
The checking method depends on these scenarios. For abstract situations, the process is slightly more complicated.
Inspect Any Abstract Skin
- Method 1: Go to a dedicated Fade checking site, like csgofades.com, and specify the percentage or pattern index (seed). The result will be visible on the skin image.
- Method 2: Generate a Gen code on a specialized site, such as csinspect.com, where you can choose a skin and enter its pattern index (pattern ID). Then copy a link for inspecting it in the game, and open it. You will be redirected to Counter-Strike and will be able to inspect the skin.
- Method 3: Generate a Gen code as in Method 2, but use it on any skin inspect servers. Such servers can be found on a dedicated Discord community—look for a CS2 Skin Inspect Server. Join the server though the game: Play -> the globe icon -> enter the server name in the filters. Then you can paste a Gen code of any CS2 weapon to the chat and inspect the skin.
Entering a skin inspect server is similar to joining CS2 surf servers.
Inspect a Real Skin You’re Considering Buying
Here things are more serious, as you have to spend big money on a Fade knife skin. We recommend using DMarket’s tools to make sure you know what you are purchasing. Here are the steps:
- Find a Fade skin you are interested in on the game items marketplace. Use the filters to avoid scrolling through all the offers.
- Press the icon in the right upper corner on the skin image—it’s i, or information.
- Check out the Fade percentage.
- Press the Inspect in game button to see the item in Counter-Strike 2.
The inspiration to buy a fancy skin often comes from esports professionals, who use various weapons during their matches. Another thing you can copy from the pros is totally free—their crosshair settings. Just import them via special codes. Our article lists them and explains the details.
Float Value of Fade Skins
Another factor that affects the rarity and general cost of CS2 skins is Float Value. As for Fade knives, they only have a value from 0 to 0.08, and therefore there are two exteriors available.
- Factory New—the best-looking CS2 knives.
- Minimal Wear—some small scratches may be visible.
It is important to note that the numbers alone of the Float Value may mean nothing in some rare situations. It may be that a skin with a lower value will have more visible scratches and therefore cost less. An example of this is a Karambit | Fade knife that can have scratches near the handle even with a low float. This should be checked carefully.
The Float Value is an important part of skins evolution. Check out our article to dive into this aspect of Counter-Strike history.
As for the Float Value of other Fade skins (for other CS2 weapons), this factor affects the price even more significantly than the pattern indexes. Due to their big weapon bodies, sniper rifles, SMGs, and even pistols most often have all colors of the Fade gradient visible. Still, some traders and players prefer having a lot of blue instead of yellow. The skins with low Float Value are somewhat more expensive.
What is a Full Fade?
A Full Fade CS2 knife has total coverage of the color gradient on its blade, with no gray areas at all. Such skins are the most valuable.
There are Fake Full Fade skins, which also cost a lot. The Fade percentage of these knives may be 99%, and the gray part is not visually noticeable.
It is also possible to have more than 100% of Fade on some CS2 knives. For example, Falchion Knife | Fade may have 110%, which means the pattern texture has covered a small part of the handle. The most important thing here is to have full coverage of the blade—this will be a Full Fade, regardless of the handle.

CS2 Fade Skins for Other Weapons
The Fade family includes other CS2 weapons, not just knives. In general, their price is less affected by the Fade percentage and different pattern indexes. The most impactful aspect for Fade sniper rifles, pistols, and SMGs is the Float Value.
You can get more information in our dedicated CS2 float value guide. In a nutshell, the price goes down for scratched skins (Well-Worn, Battle-Scarred), and it’s the highest for better-looking skins (Minimal Wear, Factory New).
