Top 10 Skins of 2017 on Steam Market

$61,000 for a digital item that only affects your in-game appearance, not your performance… You can call it crazy but it is actually called a market, and that market grows steadily each year. Last year was no exception. The list of top skins 2017 is here to impress.

10. PlayerUnknown Set (from PUBG)

pubg item

In 2017, PUBG took the gaming industry by storm, beating League of Legends on Twitch and greatly surpassing Dota 2 and CS:GO on Steam. Players who had been foresighted enough to pay $40 for the deluxe version of the game during its beta stage, got a special reward.

Yes, it was the PlayerUnknown Set of cosmetic items. What is so special about it? Well, it makes you look like Mr. Unknown himself. And one more little thing: the set can be sold for at least $1,200 on Steam or other platforms now, and some sellers previously got more than $2,000.

 9. Desert Sands Baby Roshan (Dota 2)

dota2 item

In 2013, a pink Ethereal Flame Enduring War Dog courier from Dota 2 was sold for an astonishing $38,000. The most sought-after Dota 2 courier of 2017 wasn’t that expensive but still made the list of top in-game items of the year.

With some bidders willing to pay about $2,000 and more for a Desert Sands Baby Roshan, it has left behind its Golden and Platinum siblings to take the 9th place in our rankings.

8. AWP | Dragon Lore (CS:GO)

csgo item

With an AWP in your arms in CS:GO, it’s like take him down in one shot or die, because any miss is costly. The sniper rifle costs a lot itself, especially if it is a Factory New AWP Dragon Lore. Its average price was about $2,000 last year, and today it is even more expensive.

Besides Factory New, there are four other item exterior grades in CS:GO (Minimal Wear, Field-Tested, Well-Worn, and Battle-Scarred), but they are less cool-looking and valuable. Check this guide on the DMarket blog, to learn other basics of the CS:GO Gameplay

 7. Karambit | Crimson Web (CS:GO)

karambit

Crimson colorway, spider web pattern, clawlike curved shape, and Factory New exterior are sure signs of a really pricey CS:GO knife. At least one Crimson Web Karambit was sold for $3,200 last year, while the average price exceeded $2,000.

6. Golden Frying Pan (Team Fortress 2)

pan item

TF2 pioneered skin trading in 2011, and some of its most valuable items are still in high demand. The Golden Frying Pan is obviously the most expensive weapon in the game. Backpack.tf estimates its value at 1100-1200 Mann Co. Supply Crate Keys which is about $2,800. The price is based on previous sales and was updated in 2017.

5. StatTrak™ M4A4 | Howl (CS:GO)

csgo item

Due to copyright infringement by M4A4 | Howl skin creators, Valve Corporation redesigned the pattern and removed the weapon from CS:GO cases but didn’t withdraw it from the game. The rifles remained in players’ inventories with their rarity updated from Covert to Contraband. Since then, new owners can only obtain them through trading.

That’s how the Howl became a legend. The most expensive M4A4 Howl skins are those with Factory New wear level and StatTrak™ technology, which tracks the number of enemies killed. Such items were priced at $1,500 to $6,000 last year (about $3,000 on average).

4. StatTrak™ AK-47 | Fire Serpent (CS:GO)

csgo item

The next but not the last CS:GO rifle among the top skins 2017. AK-47 is one of the most popular firearms in the game, while Fire Serpent is one of the rarest patterns. That’s why you can consider yourself lucky if you bought a Factory New StatTrak™ AK-47 | Fire Serpent for less than $3,000.

3. StatTrak™ M9 Bayonet | Crimson Web (CS:GO)

csgo item

If the Karambit | Crimson Web price seems too much for you, what about StatTrak™ M9 Bayonet | Crimson Web Factory New? With an average price up to $6,000, it is the most expensive CS:GO knife and the third most expensive skin of 2017.

2. Burning Flames Team Captain (Team Fortress 2)

TF2 item

The Golden Frying Pan is obviously one of the most expensive tf2 items, but the most expensive TF2 item is not a weapon. It’s a hat. The Burning Flames Team Captain hat, to be precise. According to Marketplace.tf, this item was sold for as much as $14,000 in May 2017.

1. Souvenir AWP | Dragon Lore (CS:GO)

csgo item

As we’ve learned, the AWP | Dragon Lore skin is extremely expensive. But it can be ten times more valuable if it was dropped during a big eSports match as a souvenir item that commemorates the occasion. One such skin was sold for $35,000 in 2017, and that price has already been beaten this year.

The most expensive CS:GO skin has dropped during the ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018. It was the first CS:GO major won by a North American team, Cloud9.

The day after their victory, a Souvenir AWP Dragon Lore skin, autographed by the MVP of the Championship, Tyler “Skadoodle” Latham, was sold for a record-breaking $61,052.63. That’s why the next list of top in-game items is going to be even more impressive than this one.
