As E3 2018 has come to an end, gamers are left with their hands full of promising releases, trailers, teasers as well as unveiled announcements.

This year the famous game trade show had the pleasure of hosting over 69,000 attendees that visited more than 200 exhibitors showcasing 3,250 products from games to accessories and other gizmos.

There were plenty of press conferences held during these days in the Los Angeles Convention Center by industry giants with many celebrities invited to take part in panel discussions: Elijah Wood, Jack Black, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Amy Hennig, David Meyler, to name just a few. Multiple streaming platforms like YouTube and Twitch were broadcasting lots of game videos that attracted millions of eyeballs from around the world.

Now, when this year’s festivities are over, we would like to review the high spots of E3 2018 and discuss trends and game genres that are expected to be ascendent over the next while. Moreover, we are excited to see which of our predictions have proved true.

Battlefield V

  • Developer: DICE
  • Publisher: Electronic Arts
  • Release date: October 19, 2018

The new installment of the popular series will be released this fall and have versions on most gaming platforms, including PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. During an E3 press conference developers promised the title will feature enhanced character customization, intricate mechanics adding much to realistic gameplay, and a number of game modes, from a challenging multiplayer to immersive single-player campaign. A trending Battle Royale mode is also within the list and will be deployed in the setting of World War II, to every gamer’s delight.  

Devil May Cry 5

This is a new sequel of a famous franchise, which is positioned as a hack-and-slash adventure game of Dante and Nero, the well-known protagonists from previous titles. The E3 video game trailer brags about future gameplay advantages that imply three playable characters with individual combat skills, rich sets of weapons and exclusive fighting styles. The developers confirmed that Devil May Cry 5 will carry on the tradition of the series, by no means killing the vibe of good old times much praised by its fans.

Metro Exodus

This is a first-person shooter game featuring both stealth and survival horror game elements. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world so common for the FPS genre, this time on the wastelands of Russia desolated after a nuclear explosion. The protagonist must fight for his life by blasting off hordes of hideous mutants and corrupted humans. Among the signature gameplay options known as of today are the abilities to scavenge the various materials scattered all over the map and craft unique weapons.

Forza Horizon 4

A new promising racing game announced by Microsoft during its E3 press conference will be geared for both PC and Xbox gaming platforms. The new title will feature an open world environment and over 450 racing vehicles. What is more enticing is a route building option allowing players to create their own race tracks. Treacherous weather, additional perks, online and offline modes and upcoming DLCs will definitely add value to the game.    

Cyberpunk 2077

A new project by the Polish development company became one of the most spoken-about announcements of the E3 event. This time the creators of the groundbreaking Witcher series decided to wow the audience with a new RPG title. Gamers will assume the role of a mercenary living in a futuristic metropolis. The game is confirmed to feature an open-world setting and fully customizable character. RPG fans can choose between commonplace game classes with a respective unique roster of weapons and skillsets and drive (or even pilot) various types of vehicles.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood

  • Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
  • Release date: 2019

The Wolfenstein franchise always portrays the need to eliminate a new Nazi menace. The upcoming title is a spinoff of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus in which two daughters of the former protagonist, B.J. Blacskowitz, embark on a deadly crusade against invading Nazi forces. The game will feature both solo and co-op gameplay modes, allowing newcomers as well as devoted fans of the series enjoy the air of the classic first-person shooter. We are sure that this title will become part of our top games list again

Rage 2

The long-awaited sequel to the brilliant first-person shooter of 2010. This time fans are going to dive deep into the post-apocalyptic world with an open environment. The title is announced to have reworked, more action-backed gameplay featuring several combat modes. Players will have an opportunity to hone their skills in a setting littered with lots of unique-looking enemies, a vast arsenal of weapons and a wide variety of vehicles.   

Fallout 76

  • Developer: Bethesda Game Studios
  • Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
  • Release date: November 14, 2018

The title is gonna be the first multiplayer game developed by Bethesda. It is announced to be an action RPG that boasts open world settings several times bigger than that of Fallout 4. While preserving many classic gameplay elements of the Fallout franchise, the installment will feature some innovative moments. For instance, there will be no human NPCs as every single person you can run across appears to be another player. Instead, gamers will be happy to fight a plethora of thoroughly designed mutants and monsters, build their own fortifications, acquire the game’s lore with numerous collectibles, and tap into the unparalleled capabilities of rare weapons and gear.

The Elder Scrolls VI

As of today, Bethesda has shared little info on what the new sequel will look like. After the developers re-railed the franchise to a MMORPG format, the devoted fans have been clamoring for a return to a classic RPG game model. And their expectations will seemingly come true soon. A teaser presented during a press conference at E3 features only cinematics and breathtaking theme music. However, as the landscape implies, the new setting will again take place in Tamriel with respective locations of Skyrim, Hammerfall and Daggerfall.

Beyond Good and Evil 2

  • Developer: Ubisoft Montpellier
  • Publisher: Ubisoft
  • Release date: TBA

This is an upcoming prequel to the most beloved action-adventure game that hit the shelves in 2003. Players will assume the role of either a male or female. The story takes place prior to the events depicted in the original title. The plot is going to be quite immersive as it will allow gamers to explore a wide range of new planets, get accustomed to diverse societies, and acquire advanced technologies. Gamers will have an opportunity to try their hand at improving playable space vessels and enlisting their own ship’s crew.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

  • Publisher: Ubisoft
  • Release date: October 5, 2018

This is yet another piece of the venerable franchise, which deftly combines action-adventure and stealth elements based on a solid RPG ground. Sneak-peek information the developers revealed during E3 enables players to gain some valuable insights on what they should await from the upcoming title. Thus, fans may be confident the game will lean to a much more role-playing approach with sophisticated dialogs, immersive quests and non-linear plot. The protagonist is supposed to have four main skills that define his playing style and determine a range of usable weapons. This time the story is set in a quasi Ancient Greece-like world, at times when two powerful cities wage war against each other.

The Last of Us 2

  • Developer: Naughty Dog
  • Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Release date: TBA

A new part of the well-known series is still far from release. However, there are some details the developers shared during the E3 game event this year. In particular regarding gameplay, the Naughty Dog folks mentioned that the new game would feature much more violence. The story will start five years after the original game’s scenario. Also, from the bits of information available on the Internet, the crafting system will be significantly reworked to enable easier and more comfortable item creation on the go.
